The procurement of a language course at the USL is governed by the following general terms and conditions which stipulate the rights and obligations and further conditions relating to the organisation of the course.

2. Enrolment in the Course

2.1 The applicant confirms his/her participation in the language course by submitting a binding application form in paper or electronic form and paying the full course fee. By doing so, he/she becomes a student at the USL. In the case of a continuing student, the interest in continuing the course can also be confirmed via e-mail.

2.2 Before submitting a binding application, a student who has not taken any course at the USL must take an initial language test to verify the level of his/her language competence. Up to the pre-intermediate level, completion of the test is optional. The placement test is available at www.ucv.uniza.sk or directly from the USL office, and the results and recommended level are communicated to the student via e-mail within 2 working days of the test completion. In the event that a student does not take the placement test or refuses the recommended course group, the USL is not responsible for his/her possible dissatisfaction with the language level of the group or with the language level and content of the individual teaching hours of the course. In this case, the student will not be refunded the paid course fee.

3. Payment

In the case of a special instalment plan agreement, the due date for each instalment is stipulated in this instalment plan, with the first instalment to be paid before the start of the course.

4.2 The USL reserves the right not to open a course with a student number of less than five and to offer the student the opportunity to continue with another course at the same knowledge level. In the event that the alternative course is not suitable for the student due to a different time, day, date or venue of the course, the student shall be entitled to a refund of the paid course fee.

4.3 The USL has the right not to admit a student to the selected course due to the full capacity of the course. Priority shall be given to students who have paid the course fee earlier. The date of payment is the date on which the funds are credited to the USL account. The student may be offered the opportunity to continue with another course at the same knowledge level. In the event that the alternative course is not suitable for the student due to a different time, day, date or venue of the course, the student shall be entitled to a refund of the paid course fee.

4.4 The USL reserves the right to cancel a student's participation in the course without refund if the student's behaviour endangers the property or health of other students in the course or the staff and lecturers of the USL, or seriously disrupts the course. Also, if the student fails to pay the agreed course fee by the due date or within the additional time period for payment granted by the USL.

4.5 The USL has the right in justified cases to change the courses (the change of the lecturer, the change of the classroom, the rescheduling of lessons, etc.).

4.6 If the course does not open or there is a change in the course, the student will be informed immediately via e-mail.

4.7 In the event of a refund of a part of or the whole course fee, the amount will – upon the student's request – be transferred to the bank account specified by the student within 30 days of notification of this account to the USL.

5. Missed lessons

The USL does not provide any financial compensation for a student's absence from lessons. In a justified case (long-term absence based on the presentation of a medical certificate, i.e. missing more than 20 consecutive lessons), upon written request, the student will be offered the opportunity to replace the missed lessons with another group at the same level of knowledge, if such a group exists.

6. Issue of Certificates

Upon successful completion of the course, the student is entitled to receive a certificate. Successful completion of the course is defined as meeting the following two conditions: participation in at least 75% of the total number of lessons and passing the final test for at least 70% of the total score. For accredited courses, a certificate valid nationwide is issued, confirmed by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic. The certificate is issued according to the personal data provided in the application form. If there is a change of personal data (the change of surname, obtaining a degree, etc.), it is necessary to notify it via e-mail before the end of the course, otherwise the certificate will be issued with the original data provided.

7. Public Holidays

There are no lessons during public holidays (bank holidays, Sundays as well as other official national public holidays) and winter holidays (Christmas). Public holidays are reflected in the course timetable, i.e. the student completes the number of lessons of the course for which he/she has paid.

8. Complaints

Only complaints or suggestions made in writing will be dealt with within 30 calendar days. After reviewing or investigating the complaint (appeal), the USL will inform the student of the possible solution or the result of the investigation of the complaint (appeal).

9. Intellectual Property Rights

The student expressly acknowledges that any materials provided to him/her by the USL are subject to intellectual property rights. For this purpose, the student expressly undertakes to refrain from any action that would infringe these rights, in particular by making copies of the materials, without the prior consent of the authorised person.
