1. Reading and Use of English : 90 minutes
The paper contains eight parts. The Reading section consists of Parts 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the paper. The Use of English section consists of Parts 2, 3 and 4. Candidates need to be able to understand texts from publications such as fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and magazines.
Task type: multiple-choice cloze ( 8 questions), open cloze (8 questions), word formation (8 questions), key word transformation (6 questions), multiple choice reading (6 questions), cross-text multiple matching (4 questions), gapped text (6 questions), multiple matching reading (10 questions).
2. Writing: 45 minutes
Candidates have to show that they can produce piece of writing - one from a choice of four tasks: essay, letter/email, proposal, report or review. There is a word limit of between 220–260 words.
3. Listening: 40 minutes (approximately)
Candidates need to show they can understand the meaning of a range of spoken material, including lectures, radio broadcasts, speeches and talks. The paper contains four parts. Each part contains a recorded text or texts and corresponding comprehension tasks. Each part is heard twice.
Task type: multiple-choice (6 questions), sentence completion (8 questions), multiple choice (6 questions), multiple matching (10 questions).
4.Speaking: 15 minutes
Candidates take the Speaking test with another candidate or in a group of three, and are tested on their ability to take part in different types of interaction: with the examiner, with the other candidate and by themselves.
