The conference is divided into two main professional sections and two accompanying workshops, creating space for the presentation of research findings, an exchange of experiences and methodologies in teaching languages for specific and professional purposes.
The conference format connects academic discussion with practical outputs, supports active participation, cooperation, and professional dialogue among local and international participants.

Professional Sections

Section 1: Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP)

Aimed at teaching languages for specific purposes as a tool for the development of professional competences, internationalization, and connecting language education with professional practice.

Section 2: Mother Tongue as a Second Language (L2)

This section focuses on teaching the national language to non-native speakers in an academic and professional environment, with a special emphasis on integration, methodologies, and socio-cultural contexts.

The conference will open with two keynote presentations. This will be followed by an interactive “Author-meets-Discussants” format, fostering scholarly exchange, connecting theory to practice, and encouraging development of new research partnerships.

Workshops

Workshops - learning by doing

Workshops represent a practical and unique part of the conference, allowing participants to try new methods, activities, and approaches firsthand.
They focus on the development of methodical abilities, reflection of teaching methods, and the immediate applicability of learned information in pedagogical practice.

LSP Workshop - practical demonstrations of activities, methodological tips, testing interactive tools, and a discussion about their benefits for teaching languages for specific purposes.

L2 Workshop - practical demonstrations of activities, methodological tips, testing interactive tools, and a discussion about their benefits for teaching the national language in academic and professional contexts.

Participants will get an opportunity to actively engage, evaluate, and compare approaches of various institutions. Workshop outputs: methodical materials, checklists, recommendations, and reflective notes applicable in pedagogical practice.

Participants are required to submit an abstract, which, upon acceptance, serves as the basis for preparing a scientific paper according to a template. Full text must be submitted prior to the conference, and, following a successful peer-review, will be published in the reviewed proceedings of the conference. During the conference, authors will present their findings actively - using oral presentations, posters, panels, workshops, or a visual presentation, fostering scholarly exchange and linking research to practice.

Abstract Guidelines

Abstract must be written in English or German, submitted via Google Forms.
It should be 150–250 words long and clearly summarise the purpose of the paper, methodology, main findings, and its contribution to practice or research.

Abstract Structure: Title of the paper (concise, informative, max. 15 words)

• Author/Authors, workplace, e-mail address
• Abstract text (aims, methods, results, conclusion)
• Key words: 3-5 terms in alphabetical order, separated by semicolons

Abstracts will be reviewed by a scientific committee based on academic quality, originality, and relevance to the conference focus.

Full Paper Guidelines

Language of the paper: Slovak, Czech, or English

Length: max. 10 standard pages, including referenced literature

Format: prescribed Word template 

Papers that successfully pass through the peer-review process will be published in a peer-reviewed conference proceedings.

All submitted papers will undergo a double-blind peer-review process, with the information of both the author and the reviewer made anonymous.
Each submission will be reviewed by two independent academic reviewers.

Evaluation Criteria:

• academic quality and originality,
• relevance to the focus of the conference,
• clarity of aims, methodology, and results,
• quality of argumentation and language,
• contribution to research or pedagogical practice.

Based on reviewers’ reports, authors will be informed of acceptance, required revisions, or rejection.

All papers that successfully pass through the peer-review process will be published in a peer-reviewed conference proceedings published by ÚCV UNIZA.

The proceedings will be available in a digital open-access format on the ÚCV UNIZA website, ensuring its long-term availability to the academic community.

Authors retain their copyrights, while granting the organiser the right to one-time publication and online dissemination of the paper in the conference proceedings.

Selected conference papers will be recommended for review proceedings for the journal Communications – Scientific Letters of the University of Žilina, which is indexed in databases Web of Science, SCOPUS, DOAJ, CEEOL, MIAR, and Index Copernicus International Journals Master List.
