The 1st International Annual Scientific Conference for professionals, educators, and researchers who view foreign languages
as a key tool in education, internationalisation, and cooperation

Conference date: 12 November 2026

Conference venue: University of Žilina, Univerzitná 8215/1, Žilina, Slovak Republic

Organiser: Institute of Lifelong Learning, University of Žilina (ÚCV UNIZA)

Conference Focus

The main topic of the conference is language education for professional and academic purposes in the context of a dynamically changing environment of higher education reacting to the needs of society, the labour market, and internationalisation. The conference focuses on foreign languages for specific purposes (LSP) as a tool for developing professional competences and employability, as well as the mother tongue as a second language (L2) in university, professional, and socio-cultural contexts. It critically reflects new trends in language pedagogy and didactics, and promotes an interdisciplinary dialogue between technical and humanities-oriented disciplines.

The aim of the conference is to create a platform for scholarly discussion, the sharing of research findings, and the exchange of good practice in the field of language education for specific and professional purposes. The event supports collaboration between universities, language centres, and professional institutions at national and international levels. It reflects current challenges of higher education - digitalisation, internationalisation, integration of theory and practice - and strengthens the position of language education as a strategic component while educating future professionals. At the same time, the conference creates space for innovative approaches and project-based partnerships contributing to the development of language education in the 21st century.
