ADAPTATION EDUCATION OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS

WITH A TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC FOCUS

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ŽILINA

The curriculum of the modules of the adaptation education for university teachers with a technical and economic focus of UNIZA is also based on the engineering pedagogy of the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy (Internationale Gesellschaft für Ingenieurpädagogik - IGIP - https://www.igip.org) and the content of the documents of the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI). At the same time, it takes into account the specifics of adult education and the educational needs of university teachers working at faculties with a technical and economic focus.

Target group:

  • Newly employed university teacher or researcher who teaches without a scientific-pedagogical degrees

Duration of the adaptation education: approx. 1.5 years

  • October 2022 - June 2023: Engineering pedagogy, ICT, Publication activity support
  • September 2023 - January 2024: Language education

1. ENGINEERING PEDAGOGY ((under the guarantee of the Institute of Lifelong Learning) - education integrating didactics, pedagogy, psychology, and interweaving through the four phases of pedagogical activity of a university teacher: planning of teaching, preparation for teaching, implementation, and evaluation of teaching. Education accepts the latest trends in university teaching, drawing inspiration from domestic and foreign universities. The content of education is flexibly adapted each year to the specific requirements and learning needs of the trainees in the current academic year. Topics based on the current accreditation standards for higher education institutions are strengthened, mainly aimed at harmonising the profile of the graduate of the study programme with learning outcomes and teaching goals; respecting the diversity of students and their needs; development of student autonomy and creativity. The implementation of the learning outcome includes personal coaching by the education lecturer in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of real university teaching with innovative elements activating the student after the completion of the education cycle.

2. PUBLICATION ACTIVITY SUPPORT (under the guarantee of the UNIZA University Library) - education aimed at acquaintance with the basic processes, services, and support of the University Library in publishing activities, available information resources, strengthening of competences necessary for effective work with them, and identification and monitoring of parameters necessary for the professional growth of a university teacher.

3. ICT at UNIZA (CIKT UNIZA – Institute of Information and Communication Technologies UNIZA) – sharing experience in preparing and conducting university teaching during face-to-face and distance teaching, active use of teaching support tools.

4. LANGUAGE EDUCATION (under the guarantee of the Institute of Lifelong Learning) – language education intended for university teachers teaching in the English language. The prerequisite for participation in the EMI course prepared and certified by the University of Cambridge is knowledge of the English language at B2 level. The course is organised as a combination of online and face-to-face teaching.

EDUCATION COSTS
All education costs are covered by the budget of the University of Žilina.

VEducation is carried out in accordance with Directive No. 200: " Principles of the Selection Procedure for the Employment of University Teachers, Researchers, Positions of Professors and Associate Professors", effective from 1 September 2021, and Directive No. 228: " Professional Development of the UNIZA University Teachers", effective from 17 February 2022.
